About Us

Frontier Wheelchairs is a student engineering team that exists to support nonprofit wheelchair organizations while enhancing their engineering capabilities. In past years, Frontier Wheelchairs has worked on designing new wheelchair frames that can be used in developing countries. They have also worked to develop a hand-powered tricycle for wheelchair users in Guatemala in cooperation with Hope Haven International. In addition to developing wheelchairs the team has also been involved in doing research regarding durability and functional testing.  The project that this team conducts is part of the curriculum that all LeTourneau engineering students take part in, known as Senior Design.

This year the team is working on designing and building a powered attachment for a three wheeled wheelchair. The team is working with Beeline Wheelchairs to create this device. Beeline Wheelchairs is an organization in Guatemala that builds affordable and durable wheelchairs for people in less resourced settings.
